Stream Garden Retreat Centre (Suan Saai Naam in Thai) is situated in southern Thailand, a tropical paradise of densely wooded hills, perennial streams, sunny beaches, and warm turquoise-blue seas.
Away from the bustle of daily preoccupations, cares, jobs and routines, the tranquility and extraordinary natural beauty of Stream Garden's location are ideally suited to its intention that is inspired by the teachings of J Krishnamurti. This intention is best expressed in his own words:

I think it is essential to go to retreat, to stop everything that you have been doing, to stop your beliefs and experiences completely, and look at them anew. You would then let in fresh air into your minds. Wouldn't you? Stop being a member of some society. Stop your rituals, take a complete retreat from all those and see what happens. Have a complete break with the past and see what happens. Sirs, do it and you will see delight.

This Retreat Centre is a project of the Anveekshana which is a non-profit, non-sectarian, religious trust created to engage people in the exploration of the deeper issues of life.

There are no organized activities and schedules, lessons or instructors to engage visitors and guests. There is only their own interest and seriousness to guide them. However informal discussion can happen with the other guests and people living at Stream Garden.

The facilities available to all visitors and guests at the Stream Garden include:

-Meals at the Centre's dining room.
-A well-stocked library of books on a wide range of subjects, the works of J. Krishnamurti in particular
-Spaces for meetings and group-activities
-A DVD-screening facility with a catalogued collection of DVD's of Krishnamurti's public talks and dialogues.
-Cd-Rom with full text of Krishnamurti's work.
-Spaces for quiet reading
-Treks into the surrounding hills and forest
-Swimming in the stream
-Meditation Corners

It is of utmost importance that guests are sensitive to the purpose of the place and respect the need for orderly and harmonious functioning here.

Please:

- Check in on arrival.
- Obtain receipts for all payments and contributions made.
- If you are attending a workshop in a group note that there may be other guests having a quiet retreat so kindly respect that.
- Ask your children to maintain the quietness of the Center's environs.
- Note that consumption of narcotics, alcohol or drinking is not encouraged on the premises.
- Let us know if you would care to volunteer any assistance to The Centre.

All meals provided are vegetarian and the meal times are announced by a bell.

Day visitors - 90 Baht per meal.

Rates:

Rates are kept to a minimum to barely cover our costs. Please choose the accommodation according to your affordability and conveniences. Rates are per person per night and cover all meals and the use of the library facilities.

Free accommodation is provided for Thai and neighboring countries (Thai style wooden room only) on presenting student I.D. card. Pick-up and drop off charges as below. For food, donation accepted as per your affordability.

How to reach Hadyai:

By Air: Nearest Airport: Hadyai (also spelt Hatyai). Connected to Bangkok, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.
By Rail: Nearest Station: Hadyai. Connected to Bangkok (16 hrs), Kuala Lumpur (14 hrs) and Butterworth (3 1/2 hrs).
By Road: Nearest City: Hadyai. Connected to Bangkok (12 hrs by super deluxe coach), Penang (3 1/2 hrs)

How to reach the Retreat Centre:

The Retreat Centre is approx. 38 km from Hadyai (Hadyai to Tung Lung - 25 km and from Tung Lung 13km. to Stream Garden. (Suan Sainam)

Option 1:

By advance notice only:

From Airport: Pick-up or drop by Stream Garden vehicle: Baht 600.
From Railway station: Pick-up or Drop by Stream Garden vehicle Baht 600.
From Tung Lung: Pick-up or Drop by Stream Garden vehicle: Baht 200

Option 2: (For low-budget or light travellers)

From Hadyai Airport:
Hadyai city Clock Tower (Haw Nalika) terminus (Baht 90) by public transport minibus + Haw Naalika to Tung Lung town by Song Thaew + pick-up taxi (Baht 17)

Tung Lung town to Stream Garden (past Tung Jang village) by motorcycle taxi (Baht 120).

From Hadyai Railway station:
By TukTuk town taxi to Haw Nalika (Clock Tower) (Baht 10) + same as above.

Option3:

Reach Tung Lung town as indicated above + call for Pick-up by Stream Garden vehicle: Baht 200
